Sunnybrook is inventing the future of health care, and, as the new Vice President of Research & Innovation, you will help define a legacy of innovative and ground-breaking research in Canada’s most dynamic academic health sciences centre.
Sunnybrook has a long tradition of success. Research has been and will continue to be core to the hospital’s mission and vision. Today, Sunnybrook is home to the largest trauma and burn program in the country and the second largest cancer centre in Canada. Internationally, Sunnybrook is recognized for its deep expertise in critical care, stroke, heart and vascular disease, as well as high risk maternal and newborn care. Its 600 scientists conduct more than $100 million annually in breakthrough research and have made world-first discoveries in image-guided, brain therapies such as ‘scalpel-free’ surgery.
As a member of the senior leadership team reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer of Sunnybrook as well as the Board of Directors of the Sunnybrook Research Institute, you will champion a bold, overarching vision for research that cuts across the research institute and health centre, from bench to bedside and beyond.
Internally, you will enhance best-in-class patient care; ensure the successful integration of research activities into Sunnybrook’s overall business model; participate in all strategic discussions, including those involving the research enterprise, education and learning, philanthropy, and operations of Sunnybrook. While externally, you will represent Sunnybrook as a trusted authority and advocate for policy support and investments in health research, at the provincial and federal levels; engage with key local, national and international partners, including the University of Toronto; and work closely with the Sunnybrook Foundation to build support with philanthropic and corporate communities.
As the ideal candidate, you have a long record of scientific and organizational success within a comparable, research enterprise. Peers describe you as an outstanding scientist and a respected and impassioned voice for health research, in all its forms. Your executive level judgment, managerial intuition, and problem-solving skills have served you well as a research leader, as has your ability to inspire researchers, clinicians, staff, partners and major donors. A minimum of a PhD and/or MD and at least 10 years of senior leadership experience in research, science and innovation is required.
