As the largest Crown timber tenure holder in coastal BC, Western has a superior timber asset base and the largest investment in lumber manufacturing in the region. Western produces a diverse range of high value speciality products that serve global markets.
From a manufacturing perspective, Western operates seven sawmills and one remanufacturing facility in B.C., a distribution and processing centre in Arlington, WA, and a sawmill in Vancouver, WA. As part of its succession planning activities, Western is looking for a new Vice President to lead operational activities for Canada.
Reporting to the SVP, Sales, Marketing & Manufacturing, the Vice President, Manufacturing, Canadian Operations provides leadership and direction to the manufacturing activities in British Columbia, obtaining optimum operational efficiency and operating margins while driving a strengthened culture of safety across the mills. The main objectives will include delivering best-in-class safety performance, increasing mill and equipment uptime and reliability across all sites while decreasing conversion costs, working closely with the SVP to develop and execute the manufacturing business strategy, and identifying, analysing and recommending opportunities to enhance margins through operational efficiency and the optimization of production forecasts.
As the ideal candidate, you are a senior executive in a multi-site, complex, unionized wood product manufacturing business. Your experience could include forestry, building products or other industrial sectors where there are multiple inputs into the production process with numerous options for outputs sold at varying price points. You have exceptional leadership and mentorship capabilities and are skilled in managing the financial performance of a manufacturing business.
