Vice President, Campus Development & Facilities

British Columbia Institute of Technology

Greater Vancouver, BC

In 2019, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) celebrated 55 years of providing highly relevant, critical training and education to individuals endeavoring to be uniquely career-ready in a competitive and ever-changing market. As one of the largest polytechnics in Canada, BCIT has over 47,000 students enrolled annually and an approximate budget of $370M. Renowned for offering applied learning, a BCIT education challenges students by offering programs that provide relevant, real-life, contextual instruction and has increasingly integrated applied research into both educational practice and industry advancements.

A new member of BCIT’s executive team is being sought to lead campus development, project services and facilities at a particularly exciting time for the Institute. This role has been established to lead the planning and implementation of BCIT’s new, innovative and sustainable campus development plan, supported by an ambitious capital campaign. This role reports directly to the President and is part of the executive team.

The successful candidate will bring a track record of conceiving of, and executing on, long-range capital plans, infrastructure and facilities for an organization of similar complexity to that of BCIT, with its five diverse campuses. This individual will have provided strategic advice to senior executives, Boards and leadership across complex organizations to related teams on land use, facility design, project execution and ideally (but not necessarily) around maintenance and facilities services. With strong business and financial savvy, this individual may today be working in the private or public sector – although exposure to both would be ideal. The ideal candidate is a team player who effectively develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, government and industry partners. Strong working relationships with the CFO and academic leadership will be critical to success.

The Vice President, Campus Development & Facilities role demands a clear vision, urgency and significant expertise and leadership skills. As this is a high-profile role with significant stakeholder and community interaction, the candidate must demonstrate an ability to build consensus, communicate effectively and provide outstanding customer service through the effective leadership of a diverse and dispersed team.

This is truly an outstanding opportunity to add immeasurable value to an important institution and enjoy the commensurate gratification that such a high-impact, career-making role affords.

This role is based at BCIT’s main campus in Burnaby.
