Traffic Engineering

City of Surrey

Surrey, BC

The City of Surrey is a BC Top Employer offering meaningful work, constant learning, and a community guided by shared values of Innovation, Integrity, Service, Community and Teamwork. Surrey is home to over 540,000 residents and is expected to surpass the population of the City of Vancouver by 2041. With continued high growth (an additional 1,000 residents move to the City every month), stable and strong senior leadership, and a vibrant transportation department that embraces innovation and the latest technologies, there has never been a better time to join this award-winning city.

With ongoing growth and development, the City of Surrey is seeking a individual to lead the traffic management department and deliver leadership for a team of 24 traffic technicians and engineering staff, providing the full range of front-line services across all areas of traffic operations.

Reporting to the Head of the Transportation Division, this person would be responsible for leading and managing the city’s entire Traffic Management Centre and network. The portfolio includes the design of a safe, integrated and convenient traffic network, including signals, streetlights and signage, with an emphasis on developing accessible pedestrian, bicycle and transit networks to reduce congestion.

As the ideal candidate, you bring over 10 years of progressive success managing transportation and/or traffic issues, ideally within a growing, sizeable municipality or related public-sector environment. Alternatively, you could come from a senior role within a transportation engineering consultancy or other municipal government leadership role where you have led a related department (urban planning, public works, parks and recreation) and thus have acquired a foundational understanding of transportation and traffic issues. A passionate, presentable and personable leader with a high level of social intelligence, you have exceptional communication and collaboration skills and are comfortable leading dialogue with members of the public as well as city council.

The position is located in vibrant Surrey, British Columbia, at the beautiful new Surrey City Hall, a 210,000 square foot architectural landmark that is LEED Gold Certified and conveniently accessible via public transit.
