Established in 1987, Yukon Energy (YEC) is a publicly owned electrical utility that operates as a business, at arms length from the Yukon government; it is the main generator and transmitter of electrical energy in Yukon. Working with its parent company Yukon Development Corporation, Yukon Energy provides Yukoners with safe and reliable power.

Reporting directly to the President & CEO and as a member of the Senior Management team, the new Director, Resource Planning and Regulatory Affairs will play a key role in developing and executing of Corporate goals, financial and business plans, and strategies to achieve the Corporate mandate. The individual will provide direct supervision to the Resource Planning team and the Environment team.

The new Director will be responsible for coordinating the planning, feasibility analysis, engineering and permitting of new generation and transmission projects, delivering approved ‘construction ready’ projects for execution. These activities include Public and First Nations consultation, environmental approvals and permitting of these projects. The Resource Planning department also provides support to Yukon Energy’s Operations Department in terms of generation dispatch planning and management of hydro resources to minimize thermal generation costs. The position is also responsible for developing and maintaining the Corporation’s 20-year resource plan and associated near-term (annual and 5-year) load/sales forecasts.

The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years direct business development and management experience identifying, cultivating, assessing and implementing creative, innovative business opportunities, preferable in the Energy Industry or related heavy industry. They will bring extensive business experience and success in the Resource Planning or Business Development function in the Energy Industry is preferred. They will have a  comprehensive understanding of Utility regulations, Utility rates and current practices, an in-depth understanding of Energy project approval processes, including First Nations and community engagement, environmental and regulatory approval, and demonstrated leadership, supervisory and team building skills to work effectively with peer executive directors in achieving department and Corporate objectives.
