Bow Valley College is Alberta’s largest comprehensive community college, serving Calgary and the surrounding region, with 8 locations throughout Southern Alberta. Over 17,000 learners (7,804 FLEs) take part in year-round credit and non-credit programs.

For over 50 years, Bow Valley College has been designing and delivering education and skills training that is accessible, flexible, and responsive to labour market and learner needs in Calgary and the surrounding region.  

Reporting to the Dean, School of Health and Wellness the Associate Dean, Nursing’s role is to provide academic leadership to Bow Valley College’s flagship Practical Nursing program which is home to over 1000 learners at any given time through its year round learner intake. The Associate Dean will promote excellence in teaching and learning and foster a culture of scholarly activity. In addition, the Associate Dean provides support and mentorship as the direct supervisor to 35 faculty and staff within the Practical Nursing program and supports faculty and staff in their professional development and scholarly activity to ensure delivery of a consistently high quality learning experience.

While the incumbent will focus a great deal of attention on internal leadership within the School of Health and Wellness, the Associate Dean, Nursing will also play a key role across the institution and in the external community. Together with the Dean, the Associate Dean, Nursing provides leadership and direction with partnerships and collaborative initiatives that involve the community, professional associations, agencies, and other post-secondary institutions. In consultation with the Dean and Program Chairs, the Associate Dean will also lead and direct accreditation processes for programs and monitor Practical Nurse program accreditation standards.

As the successful candidate, you are eligible to be a licensed Registered Nurse with CARNA, have a minimum of a master’s degree in a related field, and five years’ experience in a post-secondary environment, preferably with experience both in teaching and academic leadership. You possess superior leadership, people management, and coaching/mentoring skills with the ability to understand the big picture and the needs of the organization as a whole while providing specific leadership to the Practical Nursing program. You have advanced interpersonal and relationship building capabilities, including the ability to foster teamwork and collaborative working relationships; facilitation and mediation skills; and the ability to influence and build consensus among diverse groups and individuals. Additionally, you have demonstrated strong organizational skills and a high degree of self-motivation with a proven capacity to manage change.
